Praised in the Washington Post for her “special sparkle,” Pamela Butler has performed over 35 opera roles and numerous concerts, with organizations throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, including Arlington National Cemetery/Fort Myer Chapel, Bel Cantanti Opera, Binghamton Savoyards, Center Stage Opera, Chesapeake Chorale, Crittenden Opera Studio, Loudoun Chorale, Loudoun Lyric Opera, Loudoun Symphony, Mount Vernon Players, Opera International, Oswego Opera Theatre, Piedmont Singers, Riverbend Opera, Schiller Virginia Chorus, Syracuse Opera, Victorian Lyric Opera and the Washington Savoyards. Her rich mezzo voice with its agile upper extension has enabled her to excel in the works of composers such as Mozart, Rossini, Haydn, Handel, Mendelssohn and Purcell, among others.

Pamela’s keen interest in British history and musical comedy initially brought her to a second career in singing via the works of her heroes, Gilbert & Sullivan. She now specializes in the genre, having sung at least one role from all 13 operas in the canon.

Travel to Europe further sparked her interest in French and Russian composers such as Bizet and Tchaikovsky, and she began to study the music and the languages. She gave her first Russian-language performance in 2005 as Filipyevna in “Eugene Onegin” to critical acclaim.

In addition to performing, Ms. Butler has brought years of business and non-profit management experience to the arts in Northern Virginia as a founder, board member and advisor to several regional organizations, including Loudoun Lyric Opera (Founder, Board Member, 2007 – 2022 ), the Loudoun Arts Council (Board Member 2016 – 2018), The Virginia Commission for the Arts (Grant Panelist 2013 – 2015), the Leesburg, Virginia Commission on Public Art (Chair & Vice Chair 2007 – 2013), Friends of Leesburg Public Art (Founding Board Member 2012 – 2015), Leesburg Arts & Cultural District Task Force (2010 – 2012), and Bel Cantanti Opera (Founding Vice President/Treasurer 2003 – 2007). 

Ms. Butler currently serves on the Music Staff of Christ Episcopal Church in Lucketts, VA and St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in Middleburg, VA.  In addition to singing, she is also an accomplished guitarist. She enjoys lecturing and performing for civic organizations, senior living communities, private parties and festivals.
